Module 3.8 – The Day-Of Print Run

Unit 3 · Planning A Screening Open

A school that has not printed is not ready to screen. This is the shortest Module in the toolkit and it is the one most likely to be the reason a day goes badly.

Two printed things that are not the same object

The Coping Menu is laminated, lives in the room, gets reused. A student looks at it while the plan is built so they are not staring at an empty box. It does not leave with them.

The Resource List is a paper copy the student keeps.

What goes on the resource list

Three layers, and only the first two are the same everywhere.

LayerContentsWho fills it in
National988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Call or text, any time. Press 2 for Spanish, with interpretation in more than 240 further languages on a call. Crisis Text Line. Text HOME to 741741, or HOLA for Spanish. Free, any time, confidential.SAFER supplies
StatewideYouthLine. Call 877-968-8491 any time. Text teen2teen to 839863. Chat at theyouthline.org. For young people aged 10 to 24. Teens answer the phone from 4pm to 10pm Pacific, and adults answer at all other times. Interpretation is available on calls.SAFER supplies
LocalCounty crisis line, mobile crisis, nearest emergency departments, walk-in clinic, and the school contact by nameThe school fills in, every term

SAFER supplies a template with the first two layers filled and the third left blank, because local resources differ by county and change. A school in Clackamas and a school in Harney County need different third layers and the same first two.

✓ Take Action. Verify every number against the organization's own page before you print, every term. Lines change numbers, hours and text keywords. A wrong number on a resource list is worse than no list.

Why paper, in an era of links. A student who is escorted back to class, puts their phone in a pouch and goes home to a house where the wifi is monitored still has the piece of paper. It is the least sophisticated part of the whole program and the part most likely to be in a pocket at 11pm.
