Universal Screener Introduction Script for Teachers

We have been listening to the concerns expressed by our students regarding the need for additional support and services, especially in the area of suicide prevention. In the upcoming weeks, we will be implementing a universal screening process to better understand and address your needs and those of your peers.

Today, during the 1st and 2nd periods, we will be requesting our 12th-grade students to participate in a brief questionnaire known as a screener. Shortly, I will invite you to complete this screener. It should take no more than 3 minutes of your time, after which we will resume our regular class activities.

Once you have finished the screener, your responses will be sent to the assistant director of student services in our district. They collaborate closely with our school counselors and social workers. Some of you may require further clarification or conversation based on your answers. In such cases, a member of the Wellness Team will reach out to you with a scheduled time and a Zoom link for a brief discussion with a trained individual. Kindly check your email after this class period for a message from your counselor. When it is time for your appointment, you may take your device and headphones to the Counseling Office, where a private space will be provided for your Zoom meeting.

Please remember that participating in this screening is entirely voluntary, and you have the option to opt out if you choose. However, our aim is to offer assistance to those students who may benefit from additional support during these challenging times, and we appreciate your willingness to participate.

A few parents have chosen to opt their children out of the screener, which is why some of you may not have received it in your email.

Each student is only required to complete the screener once. If you have already done so, there is no need to retake it. Please be patient while your classmates finish their screening.
